The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 81 officially began with a spectacular opening last Saturday, September 8. Amazing performances by Spongecola, James Reid, and former 2NE1 member, Minzy made the star-studded program seem like a concert; and even the oath of sportsmanship was led by NBA superstar Stephen Curry.
The Men's Basketball Season opened with the UP Fighting Maroons showing off their strength as they beat the UE Red Warriors 87-58, with a 29-point lead. The NU Bulldogs did the same by turning their match around halfway thru, snatching the reigns from the UST Tigers, and winning their first UAAP game of the season with a 75-70 score.
The second day saw the young La Salle Archers lose to the seasoned FEU Tamaraws, who finished the last 4 minutes of the match with a 13-5 run, and a total score of 68-61. The Ateneo Blue Eagles also faced defeat against the AdU Soaring Falcons, 70-74, after a halfcourt swish by Ahanmisi that turned the game around at half time.
